NewsUnit Recognition Award

Each year at the District Dinner there is an opportunity for ONE person from each unit to be presented a limited edition CARDINAL DISTRICT Recognition Patch. Each unit needs to hold a nomination session in their unit committee meeting to select one individual that has worked especially hard in the unit and it is felt that they deserve this special recognition. THIS IS A NICE WAY TO THANK SOMEONE WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO YOUR UNIT.

NewsFOS Unit Captain Training

Mark your calendar to be at the Scout Service Center (4015 Fitzhugh Avenue), the evening of January 8th, 2009 for pizza, salad and fun at the 2009 FOS Unit Captain Training! Each unit should plan to have a representative in attendance. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:00 PM.

FOS (Friends of Scouting) is the council’s annual fundraising campaign to raise money for our operating budget to support all aspects of program, camp and various events throughout the year. We need the help of all units in order to raise the money to support these operations and keep Scouting strong in Central Virginia.

Please contact Bill Barton at 750-1677 to let him know when your Blue and Gold or Court of Honor is scheduled so that we can get on your agenda for these meetings. These meetings are the best time to do a brief Friends of Scouting presentation, since that is the time when most parents will be there. By planning to have an FOS presentation during these meetings, units will be making our FOS campaign more effective and helping to keep Scouting strong in the Great Cardinal District!

NewsNew Recruiting Flier Available NOW!

To aid in Recruiting efforts throughout the Council a number of energetic Cardinal District Scouters have taken the initiative to create a new brochure. Click Here to View the Brochure

The finalized brochure is available now for distribution immediately to locations around town where Scout-aged youth are likely to be. Initial test locations include Strikers West Creek fields & Maymont Park. Call Joe Briere at 204-2622 if you need some for your recruiting efforts!

NewsUrgent Year-End Recruiting Effort Underway in Cardinal District!

There is an exciting new membership drive underway in the Cardinal District through December 15th!

A very generous private donor has stepped forward and offered to cover the registration and insurance fee for each new Cub Scout and Boy Scout that joins a unit in the Cardinal District. That's right, from now until December 15th, each new youth registration will be FREE to that boy's family. His registration will be covered from the date he joins through December 2009!

All unit leadership, commissioners and district committee members received a letter from the Cardinal District Key-3 requesting them to hold at least one more recruitment event. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to recruit again at your schools, PTSA meetings, chartered organization partners and youth sports leagues! This is an especially a good time to get the word out at the sports leagues as fall sports wind down for the year.

In addition, a mailing was sent home to all Scouts encouraging them to bring a friend to one of their meetings. If that friend joins (for FREE!), the Scout that brought them will receive a special Centennial Recruiter patch as well as a gift: a 100 Years of Scouting T-Shirt (way cool!).

Remember, membership is the lifeblood of our units and Scouting as a whole. Let's not let this awesome opportunity pass us by!

Please call Joe (204-2622) or Jennifer (204-2648) for more information!
